We are excited to share that yesterday, in response to overwhelming public opposition from concerned Floridians, including you, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) formally rejected the “wildcat” oil drilling plan proposed in the heart of North Florida’s ecological jewel, the Apalachicola River floodplain.
We can’t thank you enough for joining more than 850 other members of our network and speaking out against this ill-advised proposal. You can read more about the DEP’s decision via The Panhandle Press.
Although unlikely, yesterday’s decision can still be challenged, and we will provide an update if further action becomes necessary.
Thank you again for speaking out to defend our beloved public lands and wildlife, and the Floridians who depend on them for their livelihoods.
For people power,
Mark and the Progress Florida team
