Gov. Ron DeSantis appoints Adam Tanenbaum to Florida Supreme Court
TALLAHASSEE – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis selected Adam Tanenbaum to serve on the Florida Supreme Court, filling the vacancy created by Justice Charles Canady who left his seat to become the new Director of The Hamilton School at the University of Florida.
With Tanenbaum’s nomination, six out of Florida’s seven Supreme Court Justices have now been appointed by DeSantis, which has already led to numerous decisions dismantling our reproductive freedoms, attacking LGBTQ+ rights, and weakening environmental and workplace safety protections.
“Judges should act as an appropriate check and balance to the executive and legislative branches, but Adam Tanenbaum has clearly been chosen to tip the scales of justice against the freedom to control our own bodies and futures,” said Laura Lee Rodriguez, Chair of the Courts Matter Florida Coalition.
“All people in Florida, no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they make, deserve to have their rights and freedoms protected,” added Letitia Harmon, on behalf of Florida Rising’s Justice in Every Courtroom campaign. “Unfortunately, Adam Tanenbaum has a track record of prioritizing politics over justice. This appointment poses an undeniable threat to the rights and freedoms of Floridians.”
